About Benson Ranch :: Benson Ranch Poitou/Standard Cross Donkeys

Benson Ranch was established in 1992 and is owned by Dr Mitch and Cindy Benson. In the beginning we raised only Miniature Donkeys. My husband, Mitch, is an equine veterinarian and I have extensively studied equine genetics, conformation, and husbandry. Mitch and I go on wilderness pack trips with our draft mules, ride our horses. and just stay home and enjoy the life we lead.

Benson Ranch is located in Gold Hill, Oregon and is 360 acres of serenity. It is a haven for my husband, myself, and our large animal family which currently consists of horses, draft mules, Miniature Donkeys, miniature cows, a Yak, five dogs, and now our shaggy Poitou cross donkeys.

In the summer of 2010 I met and fell in love with the incredible Poitou donkeys from France. I hope to breed registered Poitou in the future, thereby helping with their rare breed status, but right now I will content myself with our lovely Poitou/Standard cross donkeys. In the spring of 2011 I purchased our first Poitou cross donkeys which begins a new chapter for Benson Ranch. I have created a small breeding group and will have stock for sale from time to time. I plan to ride and drive them in addition to just enjoying being near them. I also do a lot of community service events and these donkeys are perfect for this.

We welcome visitors and would love to share the ranch with you in person!
